Installing Hood Fans

When you are installing a hood fan, first make sure that the power is off to the old fan.  Then get a measurement under the cabinet so that you know what size fan to buy.

Step 1

Place your new hood fan sideways on the stove or cook-top, take the cover off of the electrical connections, take one of the knockouts out of the back and put a romex connector in the hole and stick the wire through the connector and if the connector has screws then screw the wire in place.

Step 2

Now wire the fan black wire to black wire, white wire to white wire and wrap the ground wire around the ground screw on the fan.

Step 3

Lift the fan up to the cabinet and screw the fan into the cabinet from the bottom. Now if everything went well then your new fan should work great.

The best quality and the most common types of hood fans are:

  • Nutone Hoods
  • Broan Hoods
  • Zephyr Hoods
  • Thermador Hoods

These hood fan instructions are only for a typical residential hood fan. If you are looking at or thinking about installing a commercial or a custom hood fan then you will need to call a licensed electrician because their is much more to them and they will require an additional 20 amp circuit.

You will also have to call a licensed heating and cooling contractor to vent the hood fan outside.
