Installing Flood Lights
Installing outdoor flood lights can be a little more complicated, first you need to find a good spot on the house or garage to install them (the higher up you install the light, the better more the light will spread). Then get the appropriate box for the location (round metal box for brick and plastic for vinyl or anything else).
Trace the box on the outside of the house where you would like to install the flood light so that you can cut a hole to the right size for the box. If you are cutting the box into a brick wall, then you need to drill about a ½” hole behind the brick into the actual wall of the house for the wire to go through.
If the box is cut in a vinyl wall or something of that sort, you do not need to drill this additional ½” hole. Now figure out where the flood light is going to be switched from, then you will need to get a wire from that location to the light itself. To do this you might need to go through the attic or basement, measure off of a wall to the location of the switch then go into the attic, measure off of the same wall and drill a hole down to get the wire to the switch.
If you have to run the wire through the basement measure off of a water pipe or a heat register and find that register or water pipe in the basement and drill a hole up in the wall that the switch is going to be in to get the wire up to the switch. Now that you have that complete, measure off of the outside wall closest to the flood light box, go into the attic or basement and measure off of that same outside wall to drill a hole down the wall to get the wire down to the box for the light.
